Grant PUD: Carbon fee initiative would increase costs by millions

EPHRATA – Grant PUD officials say Initiative 1631 imposing a fee on carbon emissions would result in an about $16 million increase in average annual costs for the utility district. …

“As the county’s demand for electricity grows, Grant PUD would need to purchase more electricity on the West Coast energy market,” utility officials stated. “This power comes from a variety of generation sources, including coal and natural gas, which both produce carbon that would be subject to the proposed fee.” …

“Grant PUD has not taken a position on I-1631, but wants to get the word out about its expected impacts,” PUD officials stated.
